BIRMINGHAM, AL --Sophomore Irelynn West went 2-for-3 with an RBI for the Lindenwood Lions in a 7-3 loss to the Belmont Bruins on Friday.
Senior Keighlan Cronin (1-1) came out of the bullpen for Lindenwood (MO) (1-6) and took the loss. The right-hander went five innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on six hits, allowing no walks and striking out two.
In the batter's box, the Lions were paced by West, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a walk and an RBI. Freshman Dallis Darnell put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-4. Sophomore Mya Bethany also chipped in for Lindenwood, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 7-0, the Lions first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Lindenwood managed to push across two runs in the inning.
The Lions kept the deficit at 7-2 before closing the gap further in the seventh. Lindenwood scored once on an RBI single off the bat of West, which brought the score to 7-3 in favor of the Bruins. The Lions were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
