Hokuf Notches Four Hits in 9-5 Loss for Baseball

ST. CHARLES, Mo. --Sophomore Dawson Hokuf racked up four hits, but the Lindenwood baseball team (7-27, 4-6 OVC) fell to the Morehead State Eagles (20-12, 6-1 OVC) 9-5 on Friday at Lou Brock Sports Complex.

Junior Jett Jackson was a bright spot for the Lions, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 1.1 scoreless innings, allowing no hits, with no walks and two strikeouts.

In addition to his four hits, Hokuf had an RBI to lead the Lions. Senior Sam Kissane put together a standout performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI. Sophomore Marcus Heusohn also contributed for Lindenwood, putting together three hits in five trips to the plate.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lions were trailing 2-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Lindenwood got an RBI single from Hokuf, scoring Heusohn from second base.

The Eagles expanded their lead to 5-1 before the Lions offense got back to work, cutting into that lead in the sixth. Lindenwood put up two runs in the frame, punctuated with an RBI triple off the bat of Kissane, which brought the score to 5-3 in favor of the Eagles.

Morehead State built their lead to 9-3 before the Lindenwood offense got back in action, reducing that lead to 9-5 in the eighth. The Lions scored twice, with one run coming across on junior Anthony Stellato's single. The Lions were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.

» Hokuf put together a four-hit day for the Lions.
» Lindenwood's highest scoring inning was the eighth, when it pushed two runs across.
» Lindenwood went 3-for-7 (.429) with runners in scoring position.
» Lindenwood pitchers faced 43 Morehead State hitters in the game, allowing six ground balls and 10 fly balls while striking out 10.
» Hokuf led the Lions at the plate, going 4-for-4 with an RBI.
» Morehead State was led offensively by junior Roman Kuntz, who went 2-for-4 with two doubles and two RBI.
» Freshman Luke Lyman led the Eagles pitching staff, throwing one scoreless inning.
