Softball Drops Series Opener to UT Martin on Saturday

MARTIN, TN --The Lindenwood Lions struggled on Saturday, falling to the UT Martin Skyhawks 8-3 despite the efforts of junior Theresa Snaidauf, who went 2-for-4 with a double.

Freshman Avery Wapp (4-7) got the ball to start for Lindenwood (13-25, 5-10) and took the loss.

In the batter's box, the Lions were led by Snaidauf, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a double. Senior Morgan Gersch put together a standout effort as well, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Sophomore Mya Bethany also helped out for Lindenwood putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a double and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lions were trailing 4-0 in the third inning when they first put runs on the board. Lindenwood got an RBI single from freshman Tori Hatton, scoring Snaidauf from third base.

The Lions deficit expanded to 8-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the sixth inning. Lindenwood scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Gersch, which tightened the Skyhawks lead to 8-2.

Lindenwood kept the Skyhawks off the scoreboard before narrowing the gap to 8-3 in the seventh. The Lions recorded a run on Bethany's two-out RBI double. The ballgame ended with that seventh inning rally falling short.
