Softball Suffers Tough Loss to Tennessee State in Extras

OXFORD, AL --The Lindenwood Lions fell 3-2 in a 10-inning matchup to the Tennessee State Lady Tigers Wednesday.

Freshman Avery Wapp (5-9) started and took the loss in the circle for Lindenwood (16-32). Senior Amanda Weyh started the ballgame and went eight innings, surrendering two runs, one earned, on seven hits, walking one and striking out three.

At the plate, the Lions were led by freshman Jolie McMinn, who went 3-for-4 on the day with a double and an RBI. Senior Morgan Gersch put together a noteworthy effort as well, going 3-for-5 with a double. Junior Theresa Snaidauf also contributed for Lindenwood (MO), putting together one hit in five trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lions put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the fifth inning. Lindenwood got an RBI single from McMinn, scoring junior Whitney Kinser from third base.

The Lady Tigers failed to push any runs across before the Lions built on their lead in the seventh inning. Lindenwood scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Snaidauf, which brought the Lions lead to 2-0. The Lions were unable to hold the lead, as Tennessee State scored three times over the remaining three innings to grab the 3-2 win.

» The Lions got three-hit games from both McMinn and Gersch.
» Lindenwood's highest scoring inning was the seventh, when it pushed one run across.
» Lindenwood pitchers faced 37 Tennessee State hitters in the game, allowing 10 ground balls and 13 fly balls while striking out four.
» McMinn led the Lions at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
» Tennessee State was led offensively by junior Anayah Baker, who went 2-for-5 with a double, a triple and two RBI.
