Baseball Splits with UT Martin on Alumni Weekend

ST. CHARLES, Mo. --The Lindenwood baseball team (10-37, 6-11 OVC) earned a 13-12 win on Saturday, before falling 7-5 to UT Martin (16-31, 10-10 OVC) at Lou Brock Sports Complex.  Lindenwood honored its alumni, as former players recognized head coach Doug Bletcher who is in his final season of coaching.

GAME ONE
Freshman Easton Rakers (2-2) got the win out of the bullpen, as the right-hander went three innings, giving up one run on two hits, allowing one walk and striking out three.  Sophomore Bennett Stice also pitched well, going one shutout inning while allowing one hit, walking none and striking out two.

Senior Joe Copeland led the way offensively for the Lions, going 3-for-6 in the ballgame with a home run and six RBI. Junior Colin Shea put together a standout performance at the dish as well, going 5-for-6 with a double and an RBI. Sophomore Marcus Heusohn also chipped in, going 3-for-6 for Lindenwood with a double and two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lions scored in seven different innings on the way to the win. Lindenwood broke a 12-12 tie in the 12th inning, walking it off.  The Lions notched two of their three runs on a two-run single off the bat of Copeland.  Junior Logan Stevens' one-out RBI double was the game winner which concluded on Saturday.  The game started on Friday, but was postponed due to an issue with the turf.

GAME NOTES
» Shea racked up five hits on the day for Lindenwood.
» Copeland drove in six runs for Lindenwood.

GAME TWO
Shea led the way offensively for the Lions, going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with a triple. Heusohn compiled a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI. Sophomore Dawson Hokuf also chipped in, going 3-for-5 for Lindenwood.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Lions were trailing 1-0 in the second inning when they first put runs on the board. Shea came across to score the lone run of the inning for Lindenwood and get them on the board.

The game remained tied until the sixth inning, when the Lions got going again on offense. Lindenwood picked up a pair of runs in the frame, which brought the Lions lead to 3-1.

Lindenwood's lead had disappeared once the eighth inning arrived and turned into a 6-3 UT Martin advantage, when the Lions cut that deficit to 6-5. The Lions scored twice, with one run coming across on Heusohn's single. The Lions were unable to get any closer, as UT Martin added one run to their tally on the way to a 7-5 final.
