Women's Soccer Set to Host Home Opener Against Chicago State

The Lindenwood women's soccer team (0-2-0, 0-0-0 OVC) will take on Chicago State (1-1-0, 0-0-0 Independent) in their third game of the 2023 season on Thursday, August 24th, for a 7:00 p.m. start time in their home opener at Hunter Stadium.

The Lions are coming off two losses in the opening weekend of play to UMKC where the Lions fell 2-1 to the Roos, and 2-0 to the Austin Peay Governors. Maggie Weller leads the Lions in goals with one and also leads the Lions in shots with three. Erika Anstine and Karsen Kohl lead the Lions in minutes with 180 and Anstine leads the Lions in saves with five. Weller, Rachel Jackson, Anna Johnson and Mattie Ohlsen lead the Lions in shots on target with one.

The Lions will look for their first win of the season against Chicago State and would move to 1-2-0 on the season. Head Coach Dave Musso is two wins away from hitting 200 career wins.

Lindenwood will meet Chicago State for the first time since the Lions moved to NCAA Division I.  Chicago State went (3-14-1) in 2022, scoring 13 goals and giving up 38. The Cougars are currently 1-1-0 on the season, winning their opening match of the year against Purdue Fort Wayne, 1-0. In their most recent match, the Cougars fell to new OVC contender, Western Illinois 1-0. Cougars leading scorer is Jacqueling Tamayo with one goal and leads the team in shots. Julie Arballo started in net for the Cougars in their last two games, making nine saves on one goal against.  

Lindenwood will host Murray State in their next matchup on Thursday, August 31st at Hunter Stadium at 12:00 p.m. in Saint Charles, Mo.
