Women's Volleyball Hosts Home Tournament Starting On Friday

Matchups
Lindenwood women's volleyball returns home to Hyland Arena for their first home matches of the 2023 season as the Lions host the Lindenwood Invitational. Austin Peay, Louisiana Monroe and Indiana State will be making trip to Saint Charles, Mo. for the tournament.

The first match of the tournament will start on Friday, Sept. 1 with Indiana State taking on UL Monroe at 11:00 a.m. CT. Lindenwood will host their first match at 1:30 p.m. against former Ohio Valley Conference opponent Austin Peay.

Indiana State and Austin Peay will then play the third match on Friday at 5:00 p.m. before Lindenwood closes out the evening playing UL Monroe starting at 7:30 p.m.

All teams will play one match the following day on Saturday, Sept. 2 with the first match featuring Austin Peay and UL Monroe at 12:00 pm. Indiana State and Lindenwood will end the invitational on Saturday with their match scheduled for a 3:00 p.m. start.

Tickets will be $8.00 at the door all weekend long. Anyone in attendance who wears their 2023 volleyball camp t-shirt will receive free admission into Hyland Arena.

Chicago Classic Recap
The Lions started the 2023 season with a trip up to Chicago, Ill. where they participated in the Chicago Classic which was hosted by UIC. Lindenwood finished with a 2-1 record over the weekend with wins against Oakland and St. Thomas.

Lindenwood picked up their first win of the season last Friday against the Golden Grizzles in five sets. LU had a 2-0 advantage but Oakland fought back to even it at 2-2 before Lindenwood picked up a 15-11 win in set five. Rebecca Janke and Addy McAleer picked up 16 kills a piece in the win while Nyah Wilson added 15 more.

In their second match vs. St. Thomas, the Lions picked up a four set victory to start the season 2-0 for the second consecutive season. Janke continued to impress on both sides of the net with a total of 15 kills and seven blocks in the win. McAleer also added 11 kills and five blocks.

UIC defeated Lindenwood in their final match last weekend in three sets. The Lions were held to a .165 hitting percentage in the final match after collecting just 36 kills. McAleer continued her streak of double digit kills with another 10 on the afternoon.

Players To Watch
After her impressive start to her senior campaign, Janke earned all-tournament honors last weekend in Chicago. Janke had 34 kills last weekend which ranked second on the team. She also led the way for the Lions in blocks with a total of 14. Not only was she effect in attacking but she was efficient with a .260 hitting percentage.

Allie Otten also had a good start to her 2023 season at the setter position. Otten led all Lions with 89 assists including 36 against Oakland and 35 against St. Thomas. She also contributed two service aces along with 38 digs (second on the team).

Up Next:
The Lions will hit the road again next week for a midweek matchup against Southern Illinois in Carbondale at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 9. Lindenwood will then travel to Clarksville, Tenn. where they will play in the Stacheville Challenge hosted by Austin Peay.
