In a first-time match-up, women's rugby outlasted Southern Nazarene University 48-15 Saturday morning at the Lindenwood Track Complex in St. Charles, Missouri.
It didn't take long for the Lions to score when freshman
Charlotte Hill found a gap in the defense directly off of a lineout. She darted 20-meters for her first of two tries in the match. A few minutes of game action later, fellow freshman
Madison Jersey scored her first of three tries on the day with a blazing 80-meter break.
The Storm provided stiff resistance throughout the physical match, but Lindenwood was able to build a comfortable lead with additional tries from
Brianna Beath,
Erica Cathey, and
Charlotte Roberts. Southern Nazarene countered with three scores to provide the final margin.
The Lions improved to 1-0 in collegiate competition so far. They will make their first road trip of the season September 30 for a match against Davenport. The Panthers have had a roaring start, outscoring opponents by a total point differential of +336. The opening kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday afternoon at Turf Field in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
