Jessie Seidel Sets Program Digs Record In 3-1 Win

Lions start off OVC play with a 3-1 record after win vs. UT Martin

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Lindenwood women's volleyball (7-8, 3-1 OVC) finishes their fourth straight home match with a win against Ohio Valley Conference opponent UT Martin (3-10, 1-3 OVC) by a final score of 3-1. Jessie Seidel set the all-time Lindenwood record in digs in the NCAA era in the second set with her 1,377th career dig.

"The team did a great job of learning from last night's match and making the adjustments necessary to flip the result," said head coach Will Condon. "We challenged them to be more willing to make adjustments pre-match and during the match and they responded. Martin has the ability make a lot of changes and it requires you to made adjustments."

The Lions jumped out to the early 1-0 lead in the match with a 25-22 set score in the first. Four different Panthers had multiple kills in the set including four by Addy McAleer. Lindenwood held UTM to a -.079 hitting percentage with 10 errors.

After trailing 11-16 midway through the set, the Lions rallied back to win the first after causing three errors by Skyhawk attackers in the last five points. Seidel and Allie Otten both had five digs and one ace in the set.

The second set saw a back-and-forth showcase between the Lions and the Skyhawks as there was 12 tied scores and six lead changes. Ultimately, Lindenwood secured the set win in the second with a 29-27 score to put LU up 2-0.

Rebecca Janke provided an extra spark as she posted five of her kills in the second. The Lions scored 20 of their 29 points on kills with a .218 hitting percentage. Otten and Abby VanBuskirk combined for 14 assists. Nyah Wilson helped end the set with a kill, one of four for her in the set.

UT Martin earned their lone set win in the third after defeating the Lions 19-25. The Skyhawks had their best set in the third after posting 16 kills and a .282 hitting percentage. The Lions were led by McAleer with three kills in the third.

Lindenwood secured their third OVC win of the season as they clinched the fourth set by a final score of 25-18. LU's balanced attack from Janke (four kills) and McAleer (three kills) propelled the Lions to a win. The Lions had a .342 hitting percentage with 15 kills in rout to the win.

McAleer ended the match with 13 kills and 10 digs for a double-double. Janke was right behind her with 11 kills of her own and five total blocks. Seidel had 25 digs in the win including her career-leading dig in the second set.

"It was a special night with Jessie breaking the dig record," said Condon. "With Megan on the team our first year I have an appreciation for that record and how good a player they both have been for the program."

Allie Otten was the leading assister with 22 while VanBuskirk added 18 off the bench. Nyah Wilson also had nine kills and 11 digs for the Lions in their seventh victory of the season.
