Football Upended by Austin Peay

The Lindenwood football team (2-3, 0-1 BS/OVC) dropped a home game against Austin Peay (3-2, 0-1 UAC) by a score of 52-10 on Saturday afternoon from Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo.

GAME OVERVIEW
Austin Peay jumped out to a quick 7-0 lead early in the first quarter. Lindenwood's first drive stalled near midfield and the Govs made a stop on fourth down to get the ball back. Austin Peay would go on to find two more quick scores to go up 21-0 less than six minutes into the game. The Governors scored one more time late in the opening quarter to take a 28-0 lead after one quarter.

Austin Peay extended its lead to 35-0 at the beginning of the second quarter Lindenwood's defense started to settle in and get a few stops. The Lions got on the scoreboard late in the second quarter after a Logan Seibert 39-yard field goal. The score would be 35-3 at halftime.

Lindenwood got the ball to begin the second half and with the opening possession, the Lions moved the ball down the field. The Govs defense was stingy in the redzone, however and forced a turnover on downs, holding Lindenwood off the board. Austin Peay extended its lead to 42-3 in the third quarter, which would be the score after 45 minutes.

The Lions would finally find the endzone after a Justin Williams 22 yard run with just over six minutes to play in the game. Despite the score, the Lions' run game was successful throughout the day, totaling 228 yards on the ground. Williams finished with 93, while Robert Giaimo added another 103 to lead the group.
