Volleyball Hits The Road For Stacheville Challenge

Lions take on Indiana and Valparaiso this weekend

Matchups
Lindenwood women's volleyball continues their non-conference schedule with a pair of matchups at the Stacheville Challenge in Clarksville, Tenn., hosted by Austin Peay. With the Lions already playing APSU earlier this season, Lindenwood will play only Big Ten opponent Indiana and Valparaiso.

Lindenwood fell on Wednesday during a midweek matchup against the Missouri Valley's Southern Illinois in Carbondale, Ill. LU dropped to 4-3 on the season. Indiana sits at 3-3 on the year while Valparaiso has a 5-2 record.

Indiana University defeated fellow OVC opponent earlier this year at their home tournament. They have also faced UCLA and Washington this season. Valparaiso took on EIU during their preseason tournament and fell 2-3 in five sets. They also defeated Western Illinois (3-0) and Oakland (3-0) who Lindenwood also defeated this season.

Lindenwood women's volleyball fell to the Salukis of Southern Illinois (5-1, 0-0 MVC) by a final score of 3-1. Lions with 56 total kills in Wednesday's loss on the road.

The Lions came out the gate with a 25-22 first set win off of a .242 hitting percentage. Seven different Lions had a kill including three each from Ashley Geluck, Rebecca Janke and Addy McAleer.

Southern Illinois would then go on to take the next three sets in the win. Lindenwood held the early edge in the fourth with a score of 15-9, but the Salukis fought back to take the match.

Wilson and McAleer led the team with 14 kills each while Janke added another 11 kills. Wilson also made multiple defensive stops with eight digs. Mia Kunnert, Jessie Seidel and Abby VanBuskirk also had an ace each.

Defensively the Lions had three players with double digit kills. Seidel led the way with 18 while Allie Otten and VanBuskirk had 15 and 11 respectively. All three players also had double digit assists with Otten leading the way with 17.

OVC Top Ten
Multiple Lions cracked the top ten in statistical categories in the Ohio Valley Conference this week. Janke currently ranks ninth in hitting percentage (.293), sixth in kills (78), second in total blocks (25), sixth in blocks per set (0.93), and fifth in points (96).

McAleer ranks fifth in kills with 81 on the season after picking up 14 against SIU. Allie Otten currently ranks seventh in assists per set with an average of 7.04, but has the fourth most in the conference (190). Wilson from behind the line has 10 service aces, good for fifth in the conference.

On the defensive side of the net, Ashley Geluck ranks fifth among qualified players with a block per set rate of 0.94. Jessie Seidel also ranks fifth in the conference in digs per set with an average of 4.11, but ranks second in total digs with 111.

Players To Watch
Seidel currently has 1225 digs in her career at Lindenwood which ranks fourth all-time in school history. She needs just 103 more to move into third all-time in program history, and 219 to move into first. Seidel has average 4.04 digs per set this season including posting a double-double in Wednesday's match with 18 digs and 15 assists.

Wilson also has had a great start to her junior senior as an outside hitter. She has 78 kills this season which is second on the team while average 2.89 kills per set. She had a team-high 14 kills in their last match with another eight digs. Despite being an outside hitter, she has 69 digs on the year.
