Women's Ice Hockey Hosts RIT

This Week
Lindenwood will host RIT at home after playing the last six games on the road. The Lions and Tigers will square off on Jan. 19 and 20 at Centene Community Ice Center. Games will be played at 3:30 PM and 2:10 PM CST.

Last Time Out
The Lions went 1-1 in their recent series over Robert Morris, breaking their five-game losing streak, and earning their third conference victory of the season. In the first matchup of the weekend against Robert Morris, the Lions fell 4-2 to the Colonials. In the matchup, the Lions were squared up 1-1 after the first period. In the second period, the Colonials were able to score three goals to put them up by three going into the final period. The Lions tried to make a comeback in the final period, scoring one goal to close the deficit to two, but would not be enough. 

In the second matchup of the weekend against Robert Morris, the Lions would come out victorious, winning 5-3. Going into the final period, the Lions would be tied up 3-3 with the Colonials. With six minutes left to go in the period, Sidney Jackel would score the game winner. To seal the victory, Morgan Neitzke would score an empty netter, breaking the program record in short-handed goals in a season. Emma Hoen, Molly Henderson, and Jackel led the team in points in this affair, with all of them tallying two points.

Henderson led the Lions on the weekend with three points, coming from one goal and two assists.

Matchup Overview
The Lions are 8-13-1 on the season and are 3-6-1 in conference. The Lions are currently in fifth, in the CHA standings out of six teams, with seven points, just three points away from RIT and Robert Morris for third place. Neitzke leads the Lions in scoring with 32 points. Neitzke is also third in the NCAA in goals with 20. Sarah Davies and Rachel Goff are second and third on the team in points with 21 and 15. Natalie Ferenc and Ava McIllmurray both played a game in their recent series. Ferenc has made 472 saves during the year on 66 goals against, and McIllmurray has made 127 stops on 15 goals against. 

This will be the 46th time the Lions will take on RIT. The Lions earlier in the year (Oct. 27-28, 2023) face-offed against RIT on the road where the Lions won 6-3 in the first matchup and fell 6-2 in the second matchup. Historically, the Lions are 21-17-7 against the Tigers. RIT is sitting in fourth place in the CHA, with a record of 11-10-2. In their last two games, the Tigers took on Penn State, falling to Nittany Lions in the first matchup 4-0, and in the second matchup, winning 3-2 in overtime. Kylie Aquaro leads RIT in scoring with 19 points, and Emma Roland is second on the team in scoring with 15 points. Sarah Coe and Sophia Bellina have both started in 11 games for RIT, making a combined total of 631 saves on 50 goals against, for a combined save percentage of 92.8%.
