Men's Volleyball Bested by NJIT

The Lindenwood men's volleyball team (0-3, 0-0 MIVA) fell to NJIT (3-3, 0-0 EIVA), 3-0 on Friday night in Newark, N.J.

MATCH OVERVIEW
In the first set, Lindenwood fell behind early and would have to climb its way back into the set. Trailing 14-9, the Lions went on a 5-0 run to tie the game at 14 apiece. NJIT would settle down and regain a slight advantage at 20-16, but the black and gold would respond once again, getting the next four points, tying the set at 20-20. The Highlanders would take control late in the set, however and take the first set 25-23. A.J. Lewis led the squad with four kills, while RaShawn Bonner added three to go along with three blocks. He also hit .500 in the set.

The Lions started the second set on the right foot, holding a 6-2 early advantage. The Highlanders had an answer, getting four of the next five points to make the score 7-6. Each team would trade points with neither squad leading by two again until NJIT took a 15-13 advantage midway through the set. Lindenwood would continue to trail in the second, until tying it at 22-22 with the help of a Bonner kill. However, NJIT was able to get three of the final four points of the set to win 25-23 and take a 2-0 lead in the match overall. In the set, Lewis had five kills and hit .714.

The third set saw NJIT hold an early advantage, leading 6-2. The Lions continued to battle and cut the deficit to 7-6 after a Cole Schuler kill. Lindenwood drew even at 10-10 after Lewis finished off the point. The two teams traded points, until NJIT took a 15-13 lead. The home team would go on to take control of the set, winning 25-17.
