Men’s Ice Hockey Defeats Stonehill 6-5 in Overtime

With today's 6-5 overtime win, the Lindenwood men's ice hockey team swept the Stonehill Skyhawks in Maryland Heights.

It was an intense game as both teams battled for supremacy on the ice. LU opened scoring with a goal by Caige Sterzer, who was assisted by Jaeden Mercier and Caleb Price at 17:22 of the first period. SC responded with a goal by Justin Barker at 19:04.7.

During the second period, a total of five goals were scored, three for the Lions and two for the Skyhawks. Adam Conquest scored a blazing goal on a pass from Drew Kuzma at 6:14, followed by David Gagnon's goal at 7:12. Mercier and Jake Southgate were credited with the assist. Ryan Davies and Matt Allen were able to score for Stonehill at 10:20 and 17:52; however, scoring did not end there for the second. Sterzer scored the final point of the period for Lindenwood at 19:22.2, with Kabore Dunn and Jack Anderson assisting.

In the third, Mercier, on a pass from Aiden Yakimchuk and Sterzer, scored at 10:11 to increase the Lindenwood lead to 5-3. The Skyhawks responded with two additional goals to tie the score at five. Justin Barker (15:50) and Frank Ireland (17:37) each scored to keep Stonehill in the contest. In overtime, an unassisted goal by Kyle Jeffers sealed the contest and the weekend sweep.

Trent Burnham served as a force in the net for Lindenwood, tallying 23 saves.

"It was a great sweep for Lindenwood," stated Head Coach Rick Zombo.

The Lions will travel to take on #18 Arizona State University on Friday, February 2nd and Saturday, February 3rd. Friday's puck drop is slated for 8:00 pm CST and 6:00 pm CST on Saturday.
