Allie Otten Reaches 3,000 Assists In 3-0 Sweep Over Tennessee State

Lindenwood picks up their ninth OVC victory of the season

ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Lindenwood women's volleyball (15-7, 9-1 OVC) defeated Tennessee State (5-17, 1-8 OVC) at home on Thursday in a 3-0 sweep. The Lions improve to 9-1 in Ohio Valley Conference play and have won six straight matches.

"Tennessee State has some great hitters who can score points," said head coach Will Condon. "We knew we would have to do a good job on a few levels to try and contain them. I thought we were very poised in the first set when they jumped out to that 8-1 lead. We can score points in bunches so if we stay focused on the point we are on and not the score we can come back from a deficit."

Allie Otten made history on Thursday evening becoming the third ever Lindenwood Lion to reach 3,000 career assists (NCAA era). She ended the match with a team-high 34 assists while helping the Lions hit .276 for the match. She also notched 15 digs for her 15th double-double.

Nyah Wilson had a team-high 14 kills on 29 attacks while hitting .448. She also grabbed 15 digs for a double-double. Autumn Bax added nine kills and two blocks while Addy McAleer chipped in 15. Faith Atkins in just her second start had six kills and two blocks while hitting .545.

Jessie Seidel was the third Lion on Thursday to have double-digit digs with 14. She also added two service aces and four assists. Lindenwood's defense shut down the Tigers' offense after they hit .039 with 24 attack errors.

TSU jumped out the gate in the first set grabbing a 8-1 lead before a Condon timeout. Lindenwood battled back in the set eventually taking the leading and winning the set 25-21. Wilson had seven kills on 10 swings while Bax added another five. LU had 18 kills in the first set and hit .304.

Lindenwood found themselves trailing early in the set two as well, but fought back winning the set 25-18. McAleer had five of her kills in the second set and Otten added 13 assists. She had 29 total assists in the first two sets. Wilson and Seidel each had five digs defensively.

The third set was all Lindenwood as LU closed out the match winning 25-14 for their sixth sweep in OVC play. Lindenwood took advantage of TSU's errors after the Tigers posted 12 in the final set.

"I thought we served tough and then defended well behind the block," said Condon. "We did not get a ton of aces, TSU did a good job of taking some tough passes and finding ways of getting swings on them. I thought overall it was a good team victory from the standpoint of our willingness to put the effort in and find ways to score points in different ways."

Lindenwood and Tennessee State will match up again inside Hyland Arena on Friday, Oct. 25th starting at 6:00 p.m. CT and streaming on ESPN+. For more information go to lindenwoodlions.com.
