Women's Volleyball Takes On Morehead State This Week

Lindenwood looks to improve on their 10-1 OVC record

Lindenwood's women volleyball heads South to Morehead, Ky. to take on the Eagles of Morehead State for two Ohio Valley Conference matches. Match 1 will be held at Johnson Arena on Thursday, Oct. 31st at 4:00 p.m. CT followed by Friday, Nov. 1st match at 11:00 a.m. CT. Both streaming on ESPN+.

Lindenwood continues their pursuit of an OVC title with a conference-best 10-1 OVC record while posting a 16-7 overall record. The Lions are coming off a 2-0 weekend against Tennessee State where they complied their fifth and sixth sweeps in OVC play. Lindenwood is just 1-3 all-time against Morehead State including an 0-2 record in Morehead.

Morehead State comes into this week matches with a 9-12 overall record and a 5-5 OVC record, good for fifth best. The Eagles played two five-setters last weekend at SIUE where they split with the Cougars. Morehead State has lost three out of their last four matches after starting OVC play off with a 4-2 record.

Lindenwood has thrived in OVC play posting one of the best offenses in the conference. In OVC play, Lindenwood leads the league in points (17.82 p/s), hitting percentage (.256%), assists (13.51 p/s) and kills (14.51). The Lions have also held OVC teams to a .162 hitting percentage, tied for the lowest in the conference.

Preseason OVC Rankings
The OVC released their 2024 women's volleyball preseason poll earlier this season where Lindenwood was selected to finish in fifth place. The Lions had the third best record in the conference last season earning as the third seed at the OVC Tournament.

Southeast Missouri State was voted as the preseason favorite in 2024 with six first-place votes and a total of 167 points. Last year's OVC Champions Eastern Illinois was picked to finish right behind them with 166 points and five first place votes.

Morehead State (163 points/five first-place votes), Tennessee Tech (152 points/four first-place votes) and Lindenwood (145 points/one first-place vote) round out the top five in the OVC poll. The top five schools were separate by just 22 points.

Lindenwood also landed two players on the Preseason All-OVC team. Wilson and Jessie Seidel were selected after both received Second Team All-OVC honors last season. Otten was voted as a player to watch as she returns for her sixth season.

Last Weekend Recap
Women's volleyball continued their momentum with two sweeps of Tennessee State inside Hyland Arena. Lindenwood is one of two teams in the OVC with an undefeated record at home at 8-0. Their eight home wins are also the most in the OVC.

Allie Otten took home the OVC Setter of the Week award after posting 71 assists against TSU. She averaged 11.83 assists against the Tigers on her way to her fifth OVC Setter of the Week honors. Otten also hit 3,000 career assists at Lindenwood becoming just the third Lion in history to do so (NCAA era).

Lindenwood spread the ball around last weekend with five players going over 10+ kills in six sets. Nyah Wilson led the way with 24 kills averaging 4.00 kills per set. She was also second on the team in hitting percentage with a .449. Wilson also added three aces and 22 digs.

Freshman right-side Autumn Bax continued her strong first-season at LU with 21 kills. She now ranks sixth all-time in kills for Lindenwood players during their freshman season with 216. She needs 75 to break the Freshman kills record.

Player To Watch
Addy McAleer is coming off her best weekend in OVC play after posting 16 kills while hitting .208 for the weekend. During match one against the Tigers, McAleer posted seven kills and five digs. She followed that with nine kills on Friday hitting .250.

She is fourth on the team this season in kills with 187. She is one of five Lions to posted over 150 kills this season. She has posted at least five kills in all but two matches this season including a season-high 21 vs. Central Michigan to start the season.

OVC Top Ten Stats
Janke remains in the top two for hitting percentage during OVC play after hitting .395 in those matches. Of those qualified for HP%, she is tied for the lowest in attack errors with 11. She also ranks 10th in points. Bax also ranks seventh in hitting percentage with a .290. Bax also ranks fifth in kills per set (3.51) and fifth in points per set (3.79).

After her last two weekends, Wilson has climbed the leader boards in kills and points. She currently ranks sixth in kills per set (3.31), fifth in aces per set (0.31) and fourth in points per set (3.86).

Otten leads the OVC stats board in assists with 446 averaging 11.44. She also ranks second in service aces per set averaging 0.41 per set. Jessie Seidel also ranks fourth in digs per set averaging 5.08 per set.
