Men’s Ice Hockey Shuts Out Stonehill

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO. – On Friday night, men's ice hockey (2-9-1) took on Stonehill (4-10-0). The Lions would pull out a solid win over the Skyhawks, defeating them 5-0. After the contest, Lindenwood improves to 3-9-1 on the campaign.

GAME OVERVIEW
Things started out slow in the beginning of the first period. 16:13 into the period, Ty Hipkin would put the Lions up 1-0, scoring from a close-range shot. Hipkin's first career goal would be assisted by Ryan Forberg who would record his first career point. One minute later, Jake Southgate would score off the rebound, to put the Lions up 2-0, with three minutes left to go in the period. Southgate's goal would be assisted by Brady Yakesh and Jaeden Mercier. After a period of play, Lindenwood would lead 2-0. In the frame Lindenwood had eight shots on net. Owen Bartoszkiewicz would make seven saves in the period for the Lions.

In the second period, Ethan Zielke would score the first goal in the period at 11:11 to put the Lions up 3-0. Zielke would score his fourth goal of the season by redirecting a pass into the back of the net, assisted by Noah Houle. With 27 seconds left to go in the period, Artyom Borshyov would put a shot past the goaltender's glove-side, to extend the Lions lead to four. Borshyov's goal would be assisted by Yakesh. At the end of period two, Lindenwood would lead 4-0. In the period, Lindenwood had 11 shots on net. Bartoszkiewicz made eight stops in the period.

In the third period, David Gagnon would score on a breakaway opportunity at 18:17, extending the Lions lead to five. Gagnon's goal would be unassisted. In the final period, Lindenwood had eight shots on net for a total of 27 on the night. Bartoszkiewicz would make five saves in the period, for a total of 20 saves on the night, achieving his first career shutout as a Lindenwood Lion.
