SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Lindenwood softball (2-3, 0-0 OVC) dropped their final game at the Univeristy of Incarnate Word Kickoff Classic by a final score of 10-1 (5) against Buffalo (3-2). The Lions went 2-3 during their opening weekend of the 2024 season.

On Sunday, Lindenwood was held to just four hits and a .181 batting average as a team. Mya Bethany continued her hot start to the 2024 season after going 1-3 at the plate notching her seventh hit of the season. Jolie McMinn, Dallis Darnell and Chloe Honcar all had hits on the day.

Avery Wapp (L, 0-1) suffered the loss on Sunday after throwing the first two innings allowing four runs on three hits while striking out three. Amanda Weyh came on in relief of Wapp giving up six runs and striking out three. Buffalo's Alexis Lucyshyn was the winning pitcher after throwing all five innings.

Lindenwood scored first in the top of the second inning after a McMinn and Darnell both singled to get the ball rolling. After a fielder's choice by Irelynn West,McMinn came around to score. LU would leave the bases loaded to end the inning.

Buffalo's offense posted nine hits on Sunday scoring 10 runs and eight RBI. Madison Fernimen had three RBI for the Bulls while Sara Kelly went 2-3 with two RBI. BU scored four in the second, three in the fourth and three in the fifth to secure the win.

The Lions will return to action next Friday, Feb. 16 as they attend the Warhawk Invitational hosted by the University of Louisiana-Monroe. LU will play five total games, three against ULM and two against Louisiana Tech. For more information go to lindenwoodlions.com.
