ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Lindenwood men's basketball (8-19, 2-12 OVC) lose on Saturday by a final score of 72-57 at the hands of the Eastern Illinois Panthers (13-14, 7-7 OVC). The Lions were forced into 17 turnovers, their second most this season.
Jaylon McDaniel led the Lions in scoring on Saturday afternoon with 10 points, shooting 5-7 from the floor. It marked the seventh time this season he has scored in double digits. Lindenwood's leading scorer
Keenon Cole was held to just 1-11 shooting from the field scoring nine points. It marks the first time this season Cole failed to reach double digits.
A low scoring first half for both teams as Lindenwood trailed early by a score of 14-5 with 11:25 remaining. Eastern Illinois stretched their lead to 10 points later in the first half after a pair of Tiger Booker made free throws.
The Lions were held to just 5-22 shooting in the first half, and scored more than half their points at the foul line going 13-17 from there. Both teams were equal on the boards in the first 20 minutes, but Lindenwood turned the ball over 10 times to just six by EIU which resulted in 20 points off turnovers.
Eastern's biggest lead in the half was 13 points before
Jeremiah Talton sun a three just before the half to make the score 35-25 in favor of the Panthers. McDaniel and Cole both had six heading into the locker room.
Lindenwood's offense struggled coming out of the locker room with EIU stretching their lead to 55-35 with 12:59 remaining. The closest the Lions would get it down to the rest of the game was 67-54 with 1:48 left.
The Lions shot the ball better down the stretch going 14-29 in the second half for a field goal percentage of 48.3%. Unlike the first half, EIU kept Lindenwood off the foul line resulting in LU to go 2-7 from the line in the second half.
Isaac Ondekane had nine points off the bench going 5-7 at the line.
Nathan Johnson Jr. also contributed seven points while LU's second leading scorer
Darius Beane was limited to six points. Booker scored a game high 21 points for EIU while Corey Sawyer contributed 15. The Panthers had four double digit scorers in the win.
