BERKELEY, CALIF. – On Friday night, women's lacrosse took on California in their first matchup of the weekend in the Golden State. The Lions would win 8-7, coming from two goals behind in the fourth quarter.
GAME OVERVIEW
In the first quarter, scoring was tough to come by. The Lions would notch the one and only goal in the quarter, coming from
Logann Eldredge, at the 11:44 mark in the frame. The Lions had seven shots on goal in the frame while the Golden Bears had one. After one quarter of play, the Lions would lead 1-0.
In the second quarter, the Lions would find the back of the net 4:34 into the quarter coming from an
Alissa Digiacinto shot. Four minutes later,
Kiley Davis would extend the Lions lead to three. With 1:17 left in the frame, the Golden Bears would find their first goal of the game. After two quarters, the Lions would lead 3-1. In the quarter the Lions had seven shots on net while the Golden Bears had three.
In the third quarter, the Golden Bears contributed all four goals in the frame, gaining their first lead of the night. After three, the Golden Bears would lead 5-4. The Lions in the frame three shots on target while the Golden Bears had six.
In the fourth quarter, the Lions were able to strike first. Eldredge would score for the Lions at 14:14, tying the game up at 5-5. The Golden Bears would score the next two goals, gaining their largest lead of the night. At this point, the Golden Bears lead 7-5. With 5:38 left to go,
Lindsey Smith would cut the Golden Bears lead to one. One minute later, Eldredge would square the game up at 7-7. With 16 seconds left in the game, Eldredge would notch the game-winner off a free-position attempt. In the final frame, the Lions had seven shots on net while the Golden Bears had five.
As this game ended, the Lions moved to 4-0 on the season.
Haylie Sims got the nod in net for the Lions, making eight saves.
