ST. CHARLES, Mo. - Lindenwood softball (7-9, 0-0 OVC) pushed their win streak to four with two wins to start the Lindenwood Invite. The Lions took the first game against Green Bay (4-8) by a final score of 5-0 then followed that with a 3-1 victory over Bellarmine (5-7).
"Amanda and Avery were great today," said head coach
Erin Brown. "We made some key plays on defense and I felt like we made adjustments up at the plate."
GAME ONE
Lindenwood - 5
Green Bay - 0
Amanda Weyh (W, 4-4) was dominate on the mound picking up her four complete game while throwing her third combined shutout. Weyh went 7.0 innings while allowing two hits and striking out eight. She held her opponents to a .090 batting average while allowing just four base runners all day.
At the plate,
Dallis Darnell (2-3) and
Morgan Gersch (2-2) both had two hits during the first game. Darnell also added two RBI and a double. Weyh also was solid at the plate bring home two RBI with a single to the shortstop.
Lindenwood's defense picked up the pace early on in the first inning with a double play to get out of the inning. The Lions scored first in the second inning with a bases loaded walk giving
Mya Bethany the RBI.
Weyh, with runners at second and third, stuck out Green Bay's Paige Hanson to get out of the inning. Lindenwood then added four more in the bottom of the fifth inning to stretch their lead to 5-0.
Chloe Honchar led off the inning with a double and was moved to third after a bunt single by
Tori Hatton.
With the bases loaded, Darnell punched home a two RBI double into right center to give Lindenwood a 3-0 lead. Weyh then added her two RBI single later in the inning to make the final score 5-0. Weyh ended the top of the seventh with two strikeouts to secure the win.
GAME TWO
Lindenwood - 3
Bellarmine - 1
Avery Wapp (W, 2-2) picked up her second win of the season in the circle after throwing all seven innings allowing just one run on eight hits while striking out four. Lindenwood's defense made many plays in the field to keep Bellarmine off the scoreboard.
Madisen Noll (2-2) and
Ashley Gerber (2-3) both had two hits in the win for the Lions. Lindenwood posted seven hits while scoring three runs. Noll and Gerber both punched in runs batted in game two of the day.
Lindenwood had an opportunity to score in the first with two runners on by Bellarmine's Carson Goatley managed to get out of the inning with a flyout by
Morgan Gersch. In the top of the third, Bellarmine's Megan Konermann had a single into right field by
Emma Daniels throwing out the runner at home which led to a double play throwing out the runner at third.
The Lions finally broke through on the scoreboard with two runs in the bottom of the fourth. Noll had a triple to the right center wall to bring home
Irelynn West for the first run. Gerber then added an RBI single to put LU up 2-0.
After Bellarmine added a run in the top of the sixth, Gersch led off the bottom of the inning with a double. After an attempted steal by Noll and an error by Bellarmine's first baseman, Gersch scored to extend the lead. Weyh went three up three down in the top of the seventh to end the game.
