Men's Volleyball Defeats No. 9 Ohio State in Four Sets on Senior Night

The Lindenwood men's volleyball team (12-11, 7-7 MIVA) picked up its fourth-straight victory after defeating No. 9 Ohio State (17-8, 10-5 MIVA) in a tightly contested four-set match on senior night.

MATCH OVERVIEW
Lindenwood trailed early but used a 5-0 run finished off by an AJ Lewis kill to put the Lions up 8-5. The black and gold led 15-11 at the media timeout after a Clay Wieter block. Lindenwood maintained a slim lead throughout the first set, but Ohio State kept battling and knotted things up at 21, which forced a Lindenwood timeout. The Lions were able to outlast the Buckeyes 25-23 and pick up the first set. Lindenwood hit .355 in the frame.

The Lions got off to a quick start in the second set, leading 5-1 after a Kenneth Naples kill and were able to grow that lead to 9-5. Ohio State went on a 8-2 run to go ahead 13-11, but Lindenwood settled in and regained a 17-15 advantage, which forced a timeout by the Buckeyes. Lindenwood continued to lead near the end of the set and went up 24-20, but Ohio State went on a 3-0 run to close the gap. However, A.J. Lewis got the finishing kill and the Lions earned the second set 25-23.

It was Ohio state who jumped out to a 8-3 advantage in the third set. The Buckeyes led comfortably for the duration of the third frame and were able to draw closer in the match after recording a 25-20 set victory to make the match 2-1 overall.

Lindenwood trailed 5-2 early in the fourth, but went on a 4-0 run, which included a pair of aces from Wieter to go up 6-5. The Lions grew the lead to 16-10 with a 5-1 run. Lindenwood continued to hold a slim advantage and a termination from RaShawn Bonner mad the score 20-16 in favor of the Lions which forced an Ohio State timeout. Kadin Warner was able to finish off the match at 25-21 and the Lions picked up the four-set win.
