The Lindenwood baseball team (14-35, 7-15 OVC) fell in the series opener to UT Martin (20-29, 12-10 OVC) by a close 3-2 score on Friday night from Martin, Tenn.
GAME OVERVIEW
The Lions got the scoring started with an RBI single from
Dawson Hokuf that drove in
Kam Edwards, giving Lindenwood a 1-0 lead. UT Martin answered back with a run of its own in the bottom half, tying the score at one apiece after one inning of play.
In the fourth, Lindenwood stranded the bases loaded, while the Skyhawks scored one in the bottom half to take a 2-1 lead. The Lions tied the game in the seventh as Hokuf came up with a clutch two-out RBI to drive in
Evan Funkhouser, knotting the game 2-2. The Skyhawks escaped a bases loaded jam in the eighth to keep the game tied.
Eli Brown was solid on the mound, going seven plus innings, allowing five hits and three runs. That third run came in the eighth, which saw UT Martin score on a wild pitch and grab a 3-2 lead. Lindenwood put the first two runners on in the ninth after singles from
Colin Shea and Hokuf, but a key double play in the inning allowed the Skyhawks to escape with a 3-2 win.
