Football Opens Big South-OVC Play on Saturday Against Eastern Illinois

The Lindenwood football team (1-3) begins Big South-OVC Association play this weekend, taking on Eastern Illinois (1-3) in Charleston, Ill. Kickoff is set for 2:00 p.m.

The Lions picked up their first win of the season last week in dominant fashion, defeating St. Thomas 64-0. In the victory, Nate Glantz compiled four total touchdowns, two through the air, and two on the ground. Cortezz Jones and Jeff Caldwell each crossed the goal line twice, while having over 150 yards rushing and receiving, respectively.

Lindenwood presented a balanced offensive attack against the Tommies, rushing for 264 yards, while throwing for 277. The Black and Gold averaged 8.1 yards per play during the contest. A big threat through the air was Caldwell who hauled in a 93-yard touchdown pass late in the second quarter, which is now the longest offensive play in program history. He finished his day with 153 receiving yards overall and has now posted back-to-back 100-yard games.

It was a complete effort against St. Thomas, with all three phases of the game playing a big part. Defensively, Lindenwood earned its second shutout in program history since 2015, holding the Tommies to 148 yards. The Lions forced three turnovers, including interceptions from Jayden Patrick and Jackson Hetzel.

Logan Seibert had himself a record setting day last Saturday, registering 16 total points, coming from three field goals and seven PATs. Those 16 points are the second-most from kicking during a single game in program history. The junior kicker is also moving up the programs all-time scoring list, sitting at 230 career points, good for fourth.

This will be the third meeting between the Lions and Panthers in the series history. Lindenwood is looking to win its conference opener for the first time since the 2021 season. Last season, Lindenwood earned just one win away from Hunter Stadium.
