Men's Soccer Falls For The First Time In 2025 With 1-0 Loss At Liberty

LYNCHBURG, VA. – Lindenwood Men's Soccer (10-1-2, 3-1-1 OVC) fell for the first time this season by a score of 1-0 at Liberty on Sunday afternoon.

The Flames out shot the Lions 10-3 in the first half as Gavin Roberts made four saves to keep the game scoreless at the break. In the second half, Liberty broke the scoreless tie in the 59th minute. After a deflection off a Lion defender in the box, the ball bounced right to Liberty's Leo Conneh. Conneh fired a shot that hit off the left goal post and bounced off the back of Roberts and into the net to give the Flames a 1-0 lead.

Later in the second half, Alander Soares received a pass from across the box and had a one on one opportunity from the left side of the net, but sent the shot wide right keeping Lindenwood off the scoreboard. In the 89th minute, LU was awarded a corner kick, giving them another opportunity to tie the game. On the corner kick, the Liberty goalkeeper would grab the ball out of the air to deny the Lions a shot attempt. Liberty would hold onto the lead for the rest of the second half to hand the Lions their first loss in 2025.

The Lions finished the game with 11 shots and only four being on goal coming off the feet of Gavin Csiszar, Henrique Perestrelo, Josh Francombe, and Leandro Haesler. Goalkeeper Gavin Roberts made seven saves to limit a Liberty offense that had 18 shots with eight of them being on goal.

The Lions will return to St. Charles for a two-game homestand starting on Thursday evening when they will host Incarnate Word. Kick off is scheduled for 7 p.m at Hunter Stadium.
