Men's Hockey Drops Game Two Against No. 5 Denver

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – The Lindenwood men's hockey team (3-3-0) saw their three-game win streak snapped with a 4-0 loss to No. 5 Denver (2-1-1, 0-0-0 NCHC) at Centene on Saturday night.

Game Overview
Denver opened the scoring early when Clarke Caswell redirected a pass from Garrett Brown in front of net for a goal only 1:16 into the game. However, despite facing persistent pressure from the Pioneers, the Lions kept the deficit at just one as they approached the second intermission until a puck handling mistake in the defensive zone allowed Denver's Jake Fisher to score on an odd man rush with just seven ticks remaining in the second period.

Denver would tack on two more goals in the third period, with Sam Harris scoring at the 9:39 mark before Samu Salminen broke away from the LU defense just over two minutes later to push the Pio lead to 4-0.

LU posted a season-low of 19 shots on goal while allowing a season-high of 49 shots to Denver. Goalkeeper Klayton Knapp posted a career-high 45 saves on the night.

Knapp played a key role in helping the Lions hold Denver to 0-4 on the power play, including a gutsy five-on-three penalty kill midway through the second period.

Lindenwood now possesses a record of 1-5-0 against Denver all-time after earning a split against the Pioneers this weekend.

Quotable
"When we play fast and play our game… I think we're really good. We can compete with any team in the country. It's just having a commitment to playing our game… it's one thing to do it Friday but then to come back and to do it on Saturday [is another]. If we can learn from these lessons, it'll be a step forward for the program." – Keith Fisher.

Next Up
The Lions keep it at Centene next weekend as they are set to host another NCHC opponent in Miami (OH). Game one is scheduled for Friday, October 24th at 7:10 p.m.
