Women's Volleyball Sweeps UT Martin in Home Opener

St. Charles, Mo. – The Lindenwood women's volleyball team (5-6, 1-2 OVC) opened their home schedule with a 3-0 win over UT Martin (1-13, 0-3 OVC) in Hyland Arena on Thursday evening.

Game Overview
Lindenwood started strong, building up a seven-point lead midway through the opening set. However, the Skyhawks outscored the Lions 14-6 on their way to taking a 24-23 lead. LU denied two Martin set point opportunities before dropping a set point of their own to bring the score to 26-26. The teams then traded punches before the Lions eventually took the set 31-29 behind back-to-back kills by Ashley Geluck.

Lindenwood led for the entirety of the second set after taking an early 4-3 lead despite the Skyhawks pulling within one point on multiple occasions. Autumn Bax led the Lions with four kills in the set.

LU completed the sweep in the third set, overcoming an early two-point deficit. With the frame tied 21-21 late, the Lions closed out the set on a 4-0 run to secure their first OVC win of the season.

Two Lindenwood hitters posted double-digit kills, including Autumn Bax with 15 and Ashley Geluck with 11. Bax also added 10 digs for a double-double.

Meanwhile, Greta Shadewald recorded a new season-high of 37 assists while Dana Grib led the LU defense with 21 digs.

Quotable
"We made some changes to the line up and we did a good job of working through some of those growing pains tonight", said Lions head coach Will Condon. "We asked our players to step outside of their comfort zone and that is not easy to do, but they responded like we needed them to. Martin put us in some stressful moments, but I like how we were able to battle through those and find a way to close out sets."
