MANKATO, MN. - The Lindenwood Women's Hockey team (0-6-0, 0-0-0 AHA) fell in the series finale with the Minnesota State Mavericks by a score of 3-2. Freshman
Michaela Paulinyova scored her first career goal in the second period, while
Lucie Quarto also lit the lamp for the first time this season in the third period.
Minnesota State got on the board early in the first period off a power play goal scored by Defenseman Lauren Goldsworthy 4:26 into the game. Despite giving up the early goal,
Madison Bowtell stopped the last six shots she faced in the opening 20 minutes as she made eight saves in the first.
The Lions tied the game six minutes into the second period on
Michaela Paulinyova's first career goal.
Tatem Starlight-Yellowfly recorded her first assist of the season on Paulinyova's goal, while
Ellen Wigermo added her team-leading second assist of the season. The game would remain tied for the next 10 minutes, before the Mavericks added their second goal to take a 2-1 lead at the second intermission.
In the middle of the third period,
Lucie Quarto tied the game at two off assists from
Maddie Slocum and
Maegan Cronan. However, a minute later Minnesota State took the lead once again on a goal from Makayla Moran, which would hold for the remainder of the game.
Silje Gundersen had her second straight game with four shots on goal, as the Lions had 20 shots on goal in the contest. Goaltender
Madison Bowtell stopped 34 shots on 37 total attempts to limit the Maverick offense.
The Lions will return home next weekend as they will host Merrimack College on Friday, October 10 and Saturday, October 11. Puck drop is set for 4 p.m. on Friday.
