Football Runs Wild in Win Over Tennessee State

The Lindenwood football team (4-5, 3-2 OVC-Big South) picked up a 35-13 road win over Tennessee State (2-7, 0-5 OVC-Big South) on Saturday in Nashville, Tenn.

GAME OVERVIEW
Tennessee State scored on the second play of the game to grab a 7-0 lead. Lindenwood answered right back with a score of its own on the next drive. Jalen Smith made a big catch on third down and one play later, Steve Hall walked into the end zone, tying the game at seven. The Tigers had to settle for a field goal on their next possession and took a 10-7 lead, which was the score after one.

Lindenwood got the ground game going to begin the second quarter and Name Glantz eventually found the end zone from three yards out to give the Black and Gold a 14-10 lead. The defense responded with a couple stops and the Lions continued to find success on the ground via Jared Rhodes who went up the middle for a 32-yard score, growing the lead to 21-10. After another three and out, the Lions took their largest lead of the day at 28-10 as Hall found the end zone for a second time. The Lions led by that score at the break

The Lindenwood defense began the second half with a big play as Alex Dawkins forced a fumble that gave the Lions the ball in plus territory. Rhodes eventually paid it off with a one-yard rushing score, making the score 35-10.

Tennessee State added a field goal early in the fourth quarter, but couldn't get any closer. The Lions picked up a 35-13 win on Saturday, getting back into the win column.

QUOTABLE
"Last week we had to get back on the horse," said head coach Jed Stugart.  "Getting back to basics and playing consistent on all 3 phases of the game.  Not focused on the other team, but rather focusing on us and the things we needed to do. So, I was so proud of their response last week at practice and felt like that carried over to the game. Just an outstanding team win all around."

UP NEXT
The Lions remain on the road and will head to Macomb, Ill. for a matchup with Western Illinois next Saturday, November 8. Kickoff is set for 1:00 p.m.
