The Lions clinched the number one seed and won their first ever regular season championship in the Division I Era with a 1-1 draw against Eastern Illinois on Thursday.
Luca Bartoni scored the game's first goal in the 31
st minute in the matchup with the Panthers, but EIU tied the score at one in the 40
th minute off a free kick from just outside the box. The draw gave Lindenwood it's 20
th conference point of the season, as the Lions now stand at 6-1-2 in the OVC in 2025.
About The Leathernecks
On Thursday, Western Illinois picked up their fourth win of the season with a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over SIUE on the road. Forwards Xavier Gagnon and Diego Porras each had a second half goal to complete the season sweep over the Cougars as both of WIU's conference wins in 2025 have come against SIUE. The Leathernecks are led by Forward Liam Gainey, who has six goals and two assists in his Senior campaign. On the defensive side of the ball, Goalkeeper Micah Ramirez has played all 18 games for WIU this season, stopping 81 shots and registering a GAA of 1.72. Ramirez's 81 saves leads the OVC and his GAA ranks fifth.
The matchup with Western Illinois marks the second meeting between these two teams in 2025. The Lions took down the Leathernecks on October 5 by a score of 2-0 in St. Charles as
Sebastia Cerda Tous and
Gavin Csiszar each had a goal in the contest to pick up the win. Lindenwood currently leads the all-time series with WIU compiling a record of 3-1-1 against the Leathernecks.
