Lindenwood Men's Soccer was defeated in the final game of the 2025 regular season back on Sunday, November 2 at Western Illinois, losing their second game of the season by a score of 2-0. The Lions registered 17 shots in the contest, including 10 on target, as
Bruno Fornes,
Henrique Perestrelo and
Jozef Palushaj all had two shots on goal. The Black and Gold wrapped up the 2025 regular season with an overall record of 13-2-3 and claimed their first regular season conference championship at the Division I level going 6-2-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference.
Lindenwood had seven different players receive All-OVC Honors, as well as two individual Player of the Year honors.
Leandro Haesler was named the 2025 OVC Defender of the Year, while
Luca Bartoni was named the 2025 OVC Forward of the Year. Bartoni and Haesler were also named to the All-OVC First Team as well as Midfielder
Matteo Landais. On the All-OVC Second Team, goalkeeper
Gavin Roberts and Forward
Ethan Blake were the two Lions that made the list. On the All-OVC Newcomer Team, Landais, Haesler,
Alander Soares, and
Gavin Csiszar were the four players who were from LU. The final award for the 2025 Men's Soccer team went to head coach
Kris Bertsch, who was tabbed the 2025 OVC Coach of the Year.

Scouting The Cougars
SIUE defeated Western Illinois for the first time in 2025 on Sunday in the OVC Tournament Quarterfinals by a score of 2-0. The Cougars were led by Graduate Midfielder Ethan Hackenberg who scored both of the goals for SIUE on Sunday, scoring a goal in each half. Over their last six games, SIUE is 4-2-0 with both of their losses being scores of 2-1 at Liberty and at home against Western Illinois.
The Lions and Cougars are no strangers to one another, as the Semifinal matchup with SIUE marks the fifth time that these two squads have played one another over the last two seasons. Lindenwood picked up their first all-time victory over SIUE on the road in the OVC conference opener back on September 27 by a score of 2-0.
Alander Soares and
Gavin Csiszar each scored a second half goal in the victory for the Lions, scoring in the 77
th and 89
th minutes to start off OVC play 1-0 in 2025. The last matchup with SIUE resulted in a 0-0 tie in St. Charles on October 9 as
Gavin Roberts recorded a career-high eight saves in that matchup to help the Lions pick up an important point in the OVC standings.
