MACOMB, Ill. - Lindenwood Men's Soccer stumbled on the road by a score of 2-0 at Western Illinois in the final game of the 2025 regular season on Sunday afternoon.
The Leathernecks opened the scoring in the first half in the 25th minute on a penalty kick goal scored by Liam Gainey. A few minutes later,
Alander Soares took a penalty kick for the Lions, but missed the PK as the WIU goalkeeper made a save to keep the Lions off the board. Both teams recorded five shots in the first 45 minutes, with
Bruno Fornes having two shots on goal to lead Lindenwood in the first half.
In the second half, WIU extended their lead in the 57th minute on a goal scored by Defender Joel McIntyre to put the Leathernecks in front by two. The Lions had 12 shots in the second half with six being on target, but the Lions couldn't find the back of the net in the contest to drop their second game of the season. Lindenwood outshot Western Illinois 17-13, as 10 of the Lion's shots were on goal.

Bruno Fornes all had two shots on goal to lead the Lion offense.
The Lions wrap up the 2025 regular season with an overall record of 13-2-3, including a 6-2-2 conference record. Lindenwood will return to action on Wednesday, November 12 at 4 p.m. in the OVC Men's Soccer Tournament, which will be held in St. Charles, Missouri. The Lions will play the winner of the 4/5 matchup, with Western Illinois being the #5 seed and SIUE being the #4 seed.
