Women's Soccer Defeats SIUE 1-0, Advance to OVC Semis

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Lindenwood women's soccer team (9-4-5, 5-2-2 OVC) advanced to the OVC Tournament semifinals with a 1-0 win over SIUE (3-12-5, 2-4-3 OVC) at Hunter Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Match Overview
The best scoring chance of the first half came in the 32nd minute, as Kaylee Conoyer drew a penalty in the box to give Lindenwood an opportunity from the spot. However, the penalty kick attempt was turned away by SIUE keeper Sarah Bozeman, and the contest remained scoreless.

Neither side was able to find a go-ahead goal in the half's remaining 13 minutes, and the match went to the break tied at 0-0. Shots were an even 6-6 through the first 45, with the Lions possessing a 3-1 advantage in shots on goal.

The Lions came out on the attack in the second half, taking six shots in the first 20 minutes compared to just one for the Cougars. However, it was not until the match's 76th minute that Lindenwood would break through for the game winner, with Mackenzie Compton finding the back of the net.

Compton made a great run down the right side to get behind the SIUE defense, staying onside before getting on the end of a fantastic pass over the top from Tasneem Dizdarevic. After gaining possession, she charged into the box and slid the ball past the SIUE keeper with a strike off the right foot for the score. It was Compton's first game-winner of the season.

The Lions were able to see out the remaining time, with Caroline Ritter collecting her 10th clean sheet of the season with three saves in the match.

Lindenwood now advances to the OVC Tournament semifinals for the second consecutive season riding a six-match unbeaten streak.

"I'm very proud of our ladies today. Postseason is about being connected, fighting through adversity, playing for each other, and finding ways to advance. It wasn't our cleanest 90-minute game this year but our compete level was through the roof. We will enjoy this for the rest of today and then focus on the semifinal." – Dave Musso
