The Lindenwood men's basketball team (3-4) picked up an 80-67 win over Kansas City (1-5) on Monday night inside Hyland Arena.
Both teams went back and forth early as Lindenwood led 12-11 at the first media timeout. In a half that had 12 lead changes, the Lions went ahead 26-25 following a dunk by
Jadis Jones at the 5:18 mark of the opening half. A few minutes later with the game tied at 28, Lindenwood went on a 9-0 run capped off by a
Clayton Jackson layup to take a 37-28 lead.
During the first 20 minutes, Lindenwood shot 52 percent from the field and led 42-35 at the break. Jones led the Lions with 12 points and
Dontrez Williams added 10.
The Lions started the second half on a 10-0 run after
Jeremiah Talton knocked down Lindenwood's fifth three of the game to take a 52-35 advantage. The Roos responded with a mini run to get within single digits at 59-50 with 11:40 to go in the second half. The Black and Gold maintained a comfortable advantage throughout the half, but UMKC kept chipping away and got the deficit down to three at 68-65 with just under four minutes to go in the half.
Lindenwood answered back with a 7-0 run, finished off by a
Mekhi Cooper three to regain some separation, 75-65 with 1:23 to go. The Lions made their free throws down the stretch and earned an 80-67 win on Monday.
Four Lions finished in double figures, led by Jones who had 19 points and 12 rebounds. Williams finished with 10 points and six assists.
Anias Futrell and
Mekhi Cooper added 10 points apiece.
