MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo. – The Lindenwood men's hockey team (8-5-0) used a big third period to earn their fifth consecutive win with a 5-2 victory over Long Island (5-9-0) on Friday night. The Lions erupted for three goals in the final frame's first five minutes to pull away from the sharks.

After coming up empty in their first two attempts on the power play, Lindenwood took advantage of LIU's third penalty of the first period with a
Nolan Seed power play goal assisted by
Olivier Houde at the 17:32 mark to give LU a 1-0 lead at the first intermission.
The Lions killed off a power play to begin the second period, but less than a minute after returning to full strength conceded their first goal of the game as LIU's Daniel Baldassara found the back of the net to equalize. The Sharks capitalized on their newfound momentum just under five minutes later with an Issac Lambert goal that gave LIU a 2-1 lead.
However, with less than two minutes remaining in the second period,
Ethan Elias hooked up with an open
Jake Delaney charging toward goal, with Delaney connecting for his first collegiate goal to send the game to the second intermission all tied up at 2-2.
Jake Southgate was also credited with an assist on the play.
The Lions started the third period on the power play and made it count with a go-ahead goal from
Giovanni Morneau on a one-timer from the faceoff circle. Morneau was assisted by
Nolan Seed and
Charles Savoie as he touched twine for a team-high seventh time this season.
Lindenwood would quickly double their lead with a
Jake Southgate goal at the three-minute mark that was set up by
Louis-Philippe Fontaine and
Ethan Zielke before
Drew Kuzma took a feed from
Tyler Loughman and slid the puck between the LIU goaltender's blockers at the five-minute mark to extend the Lions lead to three.
The Sharks had a pair of power play opportunities in the third period but were held scoreless in the frame as Lindenwood secured their fifth consecutive regular season win.
Five different Lions scored goals in the contest, with
Nolan Seed and
Jake Southgate leading LU in scoring with a goal and an assist apiece. In total, eleven different Lindenwood skaters recorded at least one point.
Meanwhile,
Liam Beerman improved his record in net to 5-1 as he collected 39 saves on 41 shots for a save percentage of .951.
