Last Wednesday, the Lions dropped a close contest to Southern Illinois by a final score of 86-76 inside Hyland Arena. 
Milos Nenadic led all scorers with a game-high 21 points on 10-14 shooting from the floor, while grabbing six rebounds and dishing out five assists. The Lions had four different players score in double figures against the Salukis, as 
Jeremiah Talton (16 points), 
Mekhi Cooper (14 points) and 
Clayton Jackson (13 points) had good performances to open the 2025-26 campaign. Talton knocked down a team-high three three pointers for the Lions, while Jackson finished with a game-high eight assists, and Cooper was solid from the floor shooting 5-9 from the field and adding four assists. As a team, the Lions had 23 assists on 30 field goals made, finishing the contest with a field goal percentage of 49.2%. 
About The Red Raiders
Texas Tech is coming off of a season in which they appeared in the Elite Eight in 2024-25. The Red Raiders went 28-9 last season, including a conference record of 15-5 and made it to the Big 12 Semifinals where they were defeated by Arizona. The Red Raiders followed their loss to the Wildcats with three straight NCAA Tournament wins, including a win over No.10 seed Arkansas in the Sweet 16. Texas Tech was ultimately defeated in the Elite Eight by the eventual 2025 National Champion Florida Gators. 
Texas Tech returns the Big 12 Newcomer and Player of The Year in Junior Forward JT Toppin. Toppin averaged 18.2 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 1.5 blocks per game last season and finished the season with 19 double-doubles, including four straight double-doubles in the NCAA Tournament. Toppin scored a season-high 41 points and added 15 rebounds in a double-overtime win over Arizona State and finished the season scoring in double figures in a team-high 28 games, including 15 straight to conclude the season. 
This will be the first time that the Lions and Red Raiders have ever played one another.
