The Lindenwood football team (4-5, 3-2 OVC-Big South) remain on the road this week and take on Western Illinois (2-7, 1-4 OVC-Big South) in Macomb, Ill. Kickoff from Hanson Field is set for 1:00 p.m.
Â
The Lions are coming off a 35-13 win over Tennessee State last week. All five of Lindenwood's touchdowns came on the ground as the Black and Gold rushed for five touchdowns. It was the first time Lindenwood has accumulated five scores on the ground since last seasons 49-38 win over the Leathernecks.
Steve Hall rushed for four scores in that game. The St. Louis, Mo. native found the end zone twice against Tennessee State as did
Jared Rhodes.
Â
Rhodes compiled a career-high 113 yards on the ground on just 15 carries and averaged 7.5 yards per toat. Hall finished the day with 100 yards on 19 carries and a pair of touchdowns. It marks the first time in Lindenwood's Division I era in that two players have ran for 100 or more yards in the same game.
Â
Defensively, the Lions held the Tigers to just 36 rushing yards. That number is the lowest in a single-game since keeping Houston Christian to 50 during the programs first Division I game on September 10, 2022. In the win over TSU, Lindenwood compiled a season-high eight tackles for loss, three by Strickland. The Lions also had a season-high four sacks, including one from the redshirt senior linebacker. The Arvada, Colo. native finished the day with seven tackles and a fumble recovery. As a result, he earned Association Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Â
The 13 points allowed by the defense were also a season low. After giving up a touchdown on the second play of the game, Lindenwood allowed just two field goals the rest of the way. The Black and Gold are giving up 20.5 points per game in four wins this season.
Â
Lindenwood will look to keep the road success going in Macomb as the Lions earned their second road win of the year at TSU, marking the first time they have won multiple road games since 2022. The Lions have won both meetings against Western Illinois.
