Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Women's Hockey Defeats Syracuse To Pick Up Third Win Of The Season

MARYLAND HEIGHTS, Mo.- Lindenwood Women's Hockey picked up their second straight AHA series split on Saturday afternoon at Centene Community Ice Center as they defeated the Syracuse Orange by a final score of 4-1. Michaela Paulinyova and Tatiana Blichova each recorded three points in the victory for the Lions, while Madison Bowtell picked up her third win of the season making 26 saves.

In the first period, Syracuse scored first early on to take a 1-0 lead 4:08 into the game, but Lindenwood answered later in the period to tie the score at one. Michaela Paulinyova gathered the puck in the neutral zone after Syracuse attempted to clear the puck on a Lindenwood power play. Paulinyova brought the puck into the Orange zone and deked to the left, brought the puck back to her right, and fired a shot from close distance. The shot created a rebound that landed right on the stick of Hannah Dods, who scored her second goal of the season on the Lions fourth power play goal of the season. Lindenwood outshot Syracuse 14-6 in the opening period, and the score would remain tied at the first intermission. Rhaea Flint had three shots on goal in the first period to lead the Lions offensively.

In the second and third periods, Lindenwood scored three unanswered goals. 15 seconds into the second period, Paulinyova scored on a breakaway goal putting the Lions in front 2-1 and later in the period, Tatiana Blichova scored on a one-timer from the right side of the ice on the power play to give LU a 3-1 lead heading into the final period of play. Blichova scored her second goal of the game late in the third period on an empty net goal to put Lindenwood in front for good by a score of 4-1.

As a team, the Lions went a perfect 5/5 on the penalty kill to limit Syracuse offensively and scored two goals on the power play, which is the most power play goals scored in a single game so far this season. The Lions outshot the Orange 34-27 as Blichova ended the contest with seven shots on goal, followed by Josey Dunne-Weeks, Rhaea Flint, and Paulinyova who each had four shots on goal. Madison Bowtell was big for the Lions down the stretch as she made 21 consecutive saves over the final two periods of play to help Lindenwood pick up their third win of the season.

The Lions are now 3-11-0 overall, including a 2-4-0 record in the AHA. Lindenwood travels to Delaware for the first time ever next weekend for their next conference series of the season. Puck drop on Friday, November 14 is at 4 p.m. CT.
