ORONO, Maine – The Lindenwood men's hockey team (8-8-0) dropped their final game of 2025 by a score of 7-2 against No. 15 Maine (11-7-1, 6-5-0 HEA) on Sunday afternoon. The Lions tied the game early in the second period before the Black Bears reeled off six unanswered goals to complete the weekend sweep.
Game Recap
The Black Bears took an early 1-0 lead with a Justin Poirier goal just 1:28 into the opening period, but the Lions were able to weather the storm and held Maine scoreless for the remainder of the frame. Lindenwood was unable to capitalize on a power play opportunity late in the period and entered the first intermission trailing.
Michael Bevilacqua changed that less than 30 seconds into the second period, gaining possession off a faceoff win by
Giovanni Morneau and evading a pair of Maine defenders before firing the puck into the back of the net from the high slot for the equalizer.
Charles Savoie was also credited with an assist on the play.
However, Maine responded with three unanswered goals, including a short-handed score by Owen Fowler and a Thomas Pichette goal with just 19 seconds remaining in the period, to take a 4-1 lead into the final intermission.
The Black Bears tacked on three more in the third to extend their lead to 7-1 before
Jacob Fletcher got Lindenwood back in the scoring column at the 17:12 mark, as the freshman forward was able to deflect the puck past the Maine goaltender after
Louis-Philippe Fontaine had ripped it on net from long range. The score was assisted by Fontaine and
Jake Southgate.
