Women's Basketball Looks to Bounce Back Against Eastern Illinois

The Lindenwood women's basketball team (7-4, 0-1 OVC) faces its first conference road test in a matchup with Eastern Illinois (1-11, 0-1 OVC) on Sunday. Tip-off from Groniger Arena is set for 1:00 p.m.
 
The Lions are coming off a tough 74-65 loss to Western Illinois, dropping their first home game inside Hyland Arena in 389 days. The game featured 14 lead changes, and the game was tied with five minutes to go in the fourth, but Western pulled away late to secure the win. This was the first loss of the season for Lindenwood when they led at halftime as the Black and Gold were 5-0 when on such occasions entering Thursday's game.
 
The Lions were led offensively by Brooke Coffey who nearly had her fifth double-double of the season with 16 points and nine rebounds. The St. Charles, Mo. native currently sits fourth in the OVC in rebounding, averaging 8.5 per game. The 6-1 junior has now scored in double figures in four-straight games.
 
Mya Skoff also scored in double figures for the second consecutive game. The Bellevue, Neb. native had 10 points in the first half, and finished the night with 15, her second-highest point output of the season. She added a pair of threes and made five free throws in the contest.
 
Ellie Brueggemann was the other Lion in double figures with 13 points on 5-of-6 shooting and 3-of-3 from deep. This is the seventh game this season in which Brueggemann has made at least three threes in a game. She currently leads the OVC in three point percentage at 44.4 percent and overall makes from beyond the arc with 32. The Owasso, Okla. native also dished out six assists in the contest, her fourth such game this season with at least six dimes.
 
The Lions are looking to avoid three-straight losses for the first time since dropping four in a row from November 25-December 14 of last season. Both of these teams split their two meetings a year ago with the home team winning each game.
 
In the victory for the Lions, a 57-55-win Skoff had 11 points, while Gracy Wernlt added 10. It was s defensive battle as the Panthers were held to just 33.9 percent shooting from the field.
 
Following this game, Lindenwood will host three-straight home games. The Lions will welcome Ottawa for a non-conference matchup on December 29, before getting back into conference play with games against Morehead State and Southern Indiana on January 1 and 3, respectively.
