Game Recap: Men's Hockey |

Men's Hockey Falls in Overtime to Alaska Fairbanks

The Lindenwood men's hockey team (6-21-2) fell 2-1 in overtime to Alaska Fairbanks (10-11-6) on Friday night from Centene Community Ice Center.

GAME OVERVIEW
Lindenwood came out flying in the first period which resulted in an early powerplay. The Lions capitalized on it as David Gagnon banged one home on the doorstep, assisted by Tyler Loughman and Patrick Schmiedlin, giving the Black and Gold a 1-0 lead four minutes in. The Nanooks tied it up late in the first and the score would be knotted up 1-1 after 20 minutes.

The Lions got an early powerplay in the second, but couldn't convert. Both teams penalty kills were strong in the middle frame as each team went 0-2 on the man advantage. Owen Bartoszkiewicz stood tall in net, saving all 10 shots he faced. Kristoff Papp had a good chance late in the frame, but he was denied on a breakaway and the score remained tied 1-1 heading to the third.

It was more of the same in the final period of play as neither team converted on the man advantage and Bartoszkiewicz made 15 saves. The Lions struggled to get chances offensively, but the few that they had were quality ones. The best chance for Lindenwood came late when Jake Southgate picked off a pass at center ice and was in on a two on one with Gagnon. The Fairbanks netminder slid over and made a big save, keeping the score tied. The game would head into overtime.

In the extra session, Fairbanks jumped on a rebound less than a minute in and picked up the 2-1 win in game one. Bartoszkiewicz finished the night with 38 saves.
