Men's Volleyball Drops Match With No. 15 Ohio State

ST. CHARLES, MO. – The Lindenwood men's volleyball team (3-8, 0-5 MIVA) fell in four sets to the No #15 Ohio State Buckeyes (6-7, 3-2 MIVA) on Saturday afternoon at Hyland Arena.  

MATCH OVERVIEW

A pair of aces by Carter Stenmark and Amir Grant allowed Lindenwood to be the first team to reach 10 points on Saturday. Ohio State was ahead 15-13 at the first media timeout, but the Lions regained the momentum coming out of the timeout and eventually retook the lead 22-21. The Buckeyes soon got the momentum back, tying the set at 24 apiece and forcing a Lindenwood timeout. Capped off by back-to-back aces by Owen Walsh, the Lions claimed the first set 30-28.  
 
The back-and-forth pace of the first set continued into the second set. The set began with Ohio State jumping ahead early and being the first team to reach 10 points. A kill and an ace by Stenmark gave the Lions a 15-14 advantage at the media timeout. The Buckeyes gained control following the timeout and didn't look back. OSU won the second set 25-22.  
 
In the third set, the Buckeyes won the race to 10 and held a 10-5 lead. Ohio State continued to apply the pressure as Lindenwood could only hit to a clip of .211 in the third set. A monster kill by Brendan Louthian started a brief comeback by the Lions, but Ohio State quickly shut it down and forced a Lindenwood timeout. The Lions trailed 19-11 coming out of the timeout and  as the Lions trailed 19-11. Lions team leader in assists, Zach Solomon, had tallied 27 assists by sets end. The Buckeyes took the third set 25-18.  
 
The back-and-forth action returned in the fourth set. Ohio State was the first to 10 as they held a 10-9 lead and a 15-13 advantage at the media timeout. While trailing by three, Jacob Christopher picked up a huge kill to give him 13 for the game, a new season high. The Buckeyes continued to apply pressure and pushed their lead to 21-18. Ohio State went on to win the set 25-22 and the match 3-1.

Following Saturday's defeat, the Lions head to Fort Wayne, Indiana to square off against the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons. First serve is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. central time on Friday, February 28th.
