The Lindenwood men's volleyball team (3-4, 0-1 MIVA) fought hard, but fell in four sets to No. 12 Lewis (8-2, 1-0 MIVA) on Thursday night in Romeoville, Ill.
MATCH OVERVIEW
Lewis jumped out to a quick 8-4 lead in the opening set. The Lions got it within three at 11-8 after a
Brendan Louthain kill. The Flyers pushed the lead back to six at 17-11 late in the frame. Lindenwood tried to battle back with a triple block late, but the Flyers took the first set 25-20.
In the second set, Lewis got off to a quick start once again, going up 9-5. The Flyers maintained a comfortable advantage throughout the set, but back-to-back kills from
Ian Schuller got the Lions within six at 20-14. The Flyers settled back down and went onto win the second set 25-18.
The third set started as a back-and-forth one with the score at 7-7 early. Lindenwood took its first lead of the set after a
Carter Stenmark kill. The Lions went up by two at 11-9 and forced a Lewis timeout.
Ty Baumgarth provided a spark in the middle with three kills. The Lions kept building on the lead, going up as many as four at 18-14, which forced another Lewis timeout. The Flyers wouldn't go easily, trailing 23-19, went on a run and pulled within one at 23-22. Lindenwood was able to hang on behind strong hitting and force a fourth set.
The score was 6-6 early in the fourth, but after two-consecutive points by Lewis, Lindenwood took a timeout. Lewis was able to go up 15-12, but Lindenwood responded with a mini 3-0 run, capped off by a Stenmark kill. The Flyers were able to take control in the later stages of the frame and were able to take the set 25-21, and the match 3-1.
