NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Lindenwood men's basketball (11-14, 6-8 OVC) fell on Saturday against Ohio Valley Conference opponent Tennessee State (12-13, 8-6 OVC) by a final score of 84-76. The Lions tied their most made threes in a game this season with 12 (12-31, 38.7% 3FG).
Anias Futrell found his shot against against Tennessee State shooting 6-10 from the field on his way to a team-high 18 points. His four made three-pointers were his most in a game since Jan. 23rd vs. SEMO. He also added five rebounds for LU.
Reggie Bass scored 17 points off the bench for the Lions after shooting 4-13 from the field, but managed to go 7-9 at the foul line. Lindenwood as a team had 11 assists with Bass accounting for three of those.
Markeith Browning II led the team with four assists while adding 10 points and five rebounds.
Rebounding was controlled by the Tigers on Saturday as the out-rebounded Lindenwood 43-34 including 14 offensive rebounds. Despite Tennessee State leading for over 30 minutes of the game, there were nine ties and eight lead changes throughout the contest.
Lindenwood shot 39.3% from the field while shooting 38.7% from deep. Free throws were big for both teams as the Lions shot 16-24 at the charity stripe while Tennessee State shot 24-35. TSU also made 29 of their 58 shots including 52 points in the paint.
The Tigers jumped out the gate on an 8-0 run before
Nathan Johnson Jr. got the scoring underway for LU with a three-pointer. Lindenwood continued to challenge the Tigers in the first half eventually tying the game at 12-12 with 15:13 remaining in the first half.
Clayton Jackson's three with 13:36 left gave Lindenwood their first lead of the afternoon at 17-14.
Both teams kept it close in the first half before Tennessee State ended the half on a 5-0 run giving them the lead at 39-36. Lindenwood was held scoreless through the final 4:42 of the first half.
Lindenwood shot 12-27 from the field in the first half including going 7-14 from downtown, but found themselves trailing with 20 minutes remaining. Browning II had eight points for LU at the half while
Jordan Wildy added seven of his 10 points.
After Lindenwood tied the game at 44-44 with 16:12 remaining, TSU went on an 11-2 run over a 1:24 to take a55-46 lead. During that span, Lindenwood was forced into two turnovers while the Tigers shot 3-5 from the field.
The Tigers stretched their lead to double-figures for most of the second half before Lindenwood cut it under 10 points with 2:43 left after a pair of free throws from
Jadis Jones. With 1:17 left to play, Bass made a three-pointer that cut the lead to 74-69 but the Tigers were true at the line finishing the game going 8-10 over the final minute of the half to secure the win.
During the second half, the Lions were held to 12-34 shooting (35.3%) while the Tigers shot 42.9% including going 19-26 at the foul line. It was almost even on the glass during the final 20 minutes with TSU edging Lindenwood 23-22.
