Christopher's Career Day Propels Men's Volleyball Past Quincy

The Lindenwood men's volleyball team (6-11, 3-6 MIVA) picked up its second win of the week after defeating Quincy (7-11, 1-7 MIVA) in four sets on Saturday afternoon.

MATCH OVERVIEW
Quincy jumped out to a 6-4 lead, but Lindenwood responded with an 8-2 run, capped off by a block from Jacob Christopher to put the Lions up 12-8 and the Hawks needed a timeout. The Lions continued to extend the lead to 18-11 with a block from Amir Grant and Zach Solomon and would go on to win the set 25-19. The Black and Gold hit .632 in the opening stanza and Brendan Louthain had a team-high four kills.

The second set was a back-and-forth one with Lindenwood winning the race to 10. After an ace from Louthain put the Lions up 13-10, Quincy went on a 3-0 run to tie things up. Later in the set, the Hawks tied things up at 19 apiece, but Lindenwood answered with the next three points and a kill from Louthain prompted a Quincy timeout. The Lions took the set 25-22 and held a 2-0 lead in the match.

In the third set, Quincy held a slight advantage early at 10-8, but a block from Christopher a few points later, knotted things up at 10. The Lions went up 16-14 after a kill from Amir Grant, but Quincy responded with a 5-1 run to go up 19-17. The Hawks would win the set, 25-21.

A service ace from Carter Stenmark put the Lions up 15-12 at the media timeout in the fourth set. The Lions continued to lead late in the frame and another ace from Jose Vargas gave Lindenwood a 21-17 advantage. Christopher finished off the match with his career-high 16th kill later in the set as the Lions won 25-17 and the match 3-1.

"Our block and offense were able to weather the storm from a tough Quincy team this afternoon", said head coach Joe Kosciw "Our guys executed those skills early in the first two sets and in key moments in the fourth set to help get us a the win at home and keep building momentum for this second half of conference play. 


"Practices on Monday and Tuesday will be key for us to keep pushing forward as a group as we prepare for a tough road match against the top team in conference on Wednesday night."
