Baseball Secures Series Win With 4-2 Victory Over Illinois State

The Lindenwood baseball team (6-6) picked up a series win over Illinois State (2-7) after defeating the Redbirds 4-2 on Sunday afternoon from Lou Brock Sports Complex

GAME OVERVIEW
Ethan Smith pitched out of a jam in the first, leaving two Illinois State runners stranded. The game was scoreless until the third when Lindenwood pushed a run across on a Redbird error. The Lions got the first two runners on in the fourth and Sam Grunberg added to Lindenwood's lead with an RBI single, bringing home Jake Radosevich. A sac fly by Evan Funkhouser later in the inning made the score 3-0 after four innings.

Illinois State began the fifth with back-to-back walks and plated two, but Bennett Stice came in and got out of a jam to keep Lindenwood in front 3-2. Stice went on to throw 3.1 scoreless innings and the Lions held that one-run lead into the eighth. The Lions put the first three runners on in the eighth including a pair of hits from Tyler Thompsom and Filip Sarota. Thompson eventually scored on a sac fly from Grunberg giving Lindenwood some cushion at 4-2 heading to the ninth.

Stice finished off the game with a scoreless ninth and earned the win out of the pen on Sunday. Lindenwood picked up its second-consecutive series win with a 4-2 victory.
