The Lindenwood baseball team (9-13, 0-1 OVC) fell in extra innings, 5-4 to Eastern Illinois (8-11, 1-0 OVC) on Friday afternoon in Charleston, Ill.
GAME OVERVIEW
The Panthers struck for two runs in the bottom of the second to take a 2-0 lead. That remained the score until the top of the fifth. After the Lions put two runners on with back-to-back errors,
Charlie Isom-McCall brought home
Tanner Simpson and
Bryson Arnette, knotting the game at 2-2.
Despite surrendering the early runs,
Josh Newell was fantastic on the mound, going seven innings, giving up five hits and those two runs. The Lions threatened in the eighth with two runners on but couldn't push the go ahead run across.
After a scoreless inning from
Carson Subbert, the Lions put the first two runners on to begin the ninth and Isom-McCall singled them both home to put Lindenwood up 4-2. The Panthers battled back, however and tied the game in the ninth with a two-run homer.
Eastern Illinois plated a run in the 11
th to pick up a series opening win, 5-4.
