Baseball Stumbles Against Southern Illinois on Tuesday

The Lindenwood baseball team (14-15, 4-2 OVC) were shutout 3-0 by the Southern Illinois Salukis (21-7, 5-1 MVC) in a midweek matchup at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Missouri.

GAME OVERVIEW

The Salukis opened the scoring in the top of the fifth after the first three batters reached via a triple, hit batter, and a single. All three runners came around to score and gave SIU a 3-0 lead that held for the rest of the game.

Lindenwood's red-hot bats were silenced by Saluki starter, Tyler Timmerman, who pitched eight innings of scoreless ball. Jake Radosevich and Sarota had the lone hits for the Lions, but neither would cross home plate against Timmerman.

Freshman Kris Alcorn got the nod on the mound for the Lions against the Salukis. Alcorn's third start of 2025 saw the southpaw deal 4.1 innings allowing three runs on three hits while striking out three and walking two. Alcorn ran into trouble in the top of the fifth inning, resulting in Zach Buschschulte coming in to relieve the Lindenwood starter. Buschschulte allowed his two inherited runners to score but went on to pitch 2.2 scoreless innings.

One of the few bright spots for the Lions on Tuesday was their bullpen. Buschschulte, Matt James and Easton Rakers combined to pitch 4.2 innings and surrendered just two hits and no runs while picking up a pair of K's. Alcon was tabbed with the loss, dropping his season record to 0-1.

GAME LEADERS

Zach Buschschulte (2.2 IP, zero runs, two hits)
Jake Radosevich (1-3, one double)
