The Lindenwood men's volleyball team (10-15, 7-9 MIVA) fell in four sets in the MIVA Quarterfinals match with No. 15 Ohio State (17-10, 11-5 MIVA) on Saturday in Columbus, Ohio
MATCH OVERVIEW
The two teams went back and forth to begin the first set, as a kill from
Ian Schuller and an attack error from the Buckeyes put the Lions up 5-4. Ohio State then went on a 5-0 run to take a 9-5 lead. OSU would continue to maintain a comfortable advantage throughout the set at 16-9. The Lions responded with a 3-0 run, capped off by a kill from
Carter Stenmark and the Buckeyes called timeout. Ohio State settled back down and took the first set 25-15.
Lindenwood went up early 7-4 following a Stenmark ace. The Lions maintained the lead at the media timeout after another kill from Stenmark at 15-13. Ohio State went on a 3-0 run out of the break and the Lions needed a timeout. Lindenwood retook the lead at 19-18 thanks to a big block from
Zach Solomon and
Owen Walsh. The two teams went back and forth late in the frame with Ohio State regaining the lead at 23-22 and Lindenwood called timeout. The Buckeyes ended up winning the frame 25-23.
Ohio State won the race to 10 in the fourth and led 10-7, which forced a Lindenwood timeout. The Buckeyes continued to lead late in the stanza at 21-16 after back-to-back aces. The Lions kept battling, however, down 22-17, Lindenwood went on a 5-0 run, finished off by a kill from
Brendan Louthain, tying the set at 22 apiece. Down match point, Shuller tied it up 24-24 with a kill and gave the Lions the lead with another.
Jose Vargas secured the third with an ace at 26-24.
In the fourth, Ohio State jumped out to a 10-1 lead and Lindenwood needed a timeout. The Buckeyes continued to maintain a comfortable advantage during the set and took the set 25-14 and the match 3-1.
