The Lindenwood men's volleyball team (8-14, 5-9 MIVA) earned a four set win over Quincy (8-16, 2-11 MIVA) on Friday night in Quincy, Ill.
MATCH OVERVIEW
Quincy jumped out to a 15-8 lead in the opening set and continued to remain in front as the frame moved to the later stages. The Lions battled back, down 20-15, took the next three points to make the score 20-18, which forced a Quincy timeout.
Out of the break,
Brendan Schoeberl recorded an ace, and Own Walsh stuffed an attack at the net, tying things at 20 apiece. A kill from
Brendan Louthain gave Lindenwood its first lead of the set at 21-20. Black and Gold finished the frame on a 10-1 run and grabbed the first 25-21.
The Hawks won the race to 10 in the second set, going up 10-5. Lindenwood continued to trail but got within three at 18-15 after a kill from
Ian Schuller. Later in the stanza,
Carter Stenmark fired an ace, pulling the Lions within two at 22-20 and another one off the hand of
Amir Grant cut the deficit to one, 23-22. Quincy was able to hold onto the set, 25-23 and tie the match at one.
The two teams went back and forth to begin the third set. Lindenwood trailed 10-8, but rattled off the next four points, capped off by a kill from Louthain to put the Lions in front 12-10. The Lions continued to hold a slim lead in the later stages of the set and a termination from Stenmark gave Lindenwood a 23-19 lead. The Lions went on to win the set 25-21.
In the fourth set, Lindenwood trailed 5-4 and then went on a 4-0 run to go up 8-5. As the set moved along, the Lions continued to lead by three, 15-12. After a kill from Stenmark, the Black and Gold advantage grew to 20-15, and the set was eventually finished off by Grant at 25-19, giving the Lions a 3-1 win over Quincy.
